Let's celebrate Winter Solstice!

I love to watch sunrise & sunset. Although they are happening everyday, isn't it so hard to watch them as often as we want? It comes even much harder to watch them with the great view of horizon. Too many houses and buildings!
Recently I happened to have many chances to watch these great phenomenas. Besides, living in Staten Island probably made me easy to find the good spots where we can see the wonderful horizon. Whenever I had a chance, I always felt that it was too beautiful to let them go without being captured.
So, I started taking pictures and now I have some nice collections.
Since today is Winter Solstice, I'd like to celebrate it with some of those pictures. Aren't they beautiful?

日の出と日没の瞬間ってとても美しいですよね。その気になればほとんど毎日でも観る事ができるはずなのに、都会暮らしをしてるとめったに観れませんよね。私は最近、こうした瞬間を拝む事が出来る機会に恵まれています。観てるともう、カメラを向けずにいられません。というわけで、実はずいぶん撮りまくってるんですが、今回はそのコレクションから、選りすぐりを紹介します。ちょうど、今日は冬至ですしね！

Art at Bay (St. George, Staten Island)

皆さんは、スタテン島が実は小島などではなく、マンハッタンよりもずっと大きな島である事をご存知ですか？ええ確かに、あの誰もが目にする地下鉄マップを見ると小さな島になってるし、住人も少ないし、マンハッタンのように刺激的なところも少ないです。でも、ここにも、NYC のほかのエリアと同様、とてもたくさんのアーティストが住でいるのです。先週の土曜日に由喜さんと私はスタテン島でのアート展示会のオープニングレセプション（正確には準備しているところ）へお邪魔してきました。スタテン島フェリーからほんの１ブロックだけBay Street の方へ進んだところにある新しいギャラリーです。まだご覧になってない方、ぜひともどうぞ！スタテン島のアーティストも気合が入ってますよ！

Did you know that Staten Island is not a small island? Actually　much bigger than Manhattan!!　although it looks very very small in NYC subway map which is probably the most popular map to the people who visit or live in NYC.

Well, it is true that there are much less people live in Staten Island and I admit that there are not so many hot spots like Manhattan, but let me tell you this, as same as the other boroughs, a lot of artists live in Staten Island, too. Yuuki and I went to the opening reception "Art at Bay" last Saturday night. It is held at just one block away from Staten Island Ferry Terminal on Bay St. If you haven't visited there yet, please go and find out the wonderfulness of Staten Island artists! It is absolutely inspiring!

Heavy snow in Boston

　ボストンは大雪です。あ〜あ、もうこれだから北国は‥‥‥‥‥。ここにはWaFooのメンバーはほとんどが住んでいたのですが、やっぱり私が一番長くて、１０年ほど住んでおりました。雪を見て、ようやくボストンに帰ってきた事を実感しました。

　『私、冬が好き』と友人の娘さん（４歳）が言いました。ほほう、ボストンでは滅多に聴かない台詞を口にしますな。

　『私、冬が好きなのに、ずーっと冬が見れなかった』うーむ、ボストンに１０年間も住んだ私が聴いた事のない台詞を口にしますな。

　お嬢ちゃん、ボストンにいる限り、冬はたーんと見れるよ。ボストンはね、君が思うよりももっとゴッツイ所なんやで。ヒーッヒッヒッヒ。ボストンの冬は長いで〜。

It snowed hard in Boston. Oh boy...... Almost all the members of WaFoo once lived in here and I am the one who had stayed here the longest; about ten years. After I saw the snow, it finally hit me that I am in Boston.

"I like Winter." My friend's 4-year-old daughter said. Ah-huh, that's the sentence I don't hear too often in Boston.

"I like Winter but haven't seen it for a long time." I see. You just said something which a 10-years veteran of Boston has never heard.

Little girl, you will have a plenty of Winter as long as you are in Boston. Boston is a hell of a place and I stress on "hell." Hee-hee-hee. Boston's Winter is wicked long....

Elvis!!

　一平はボストンに来ております。我らが母校、バークリー音楽院の向かいにあるギター屋さんで巨大エルビスと記念撮影です。そう言えば、私、数年ほど前にエルビスの生誕７０年を記念するコンサートをロックンロール・カフェで演奏しました。

I came to Boston, This is King Elvis and me at the guitar shop in front of our old school, Berklee College of Music. I played for Elvis' 70th birthday concert at Rock'n Roll Cafe a few years ago.

The most unexpected guest

　落ち葉の山に秋の終わりを感じる今日このごろ、皆様、いかがお過ごしでしょうか。先日、私が友人宅の落ち葉集めを手伝っていると、珍客が訪れてきました。

Hello everyone. I hope you guys are enjoying this early winter weather. I have something I want to share with you. I had the most unexpected guest when I was helping raking up the fallen leaves at my friend's place on the other day.

ラ、ラ、ラ、ラスカル!? R-R-R-RACCOON!?

アライグマでございます。たま〜に見ることはありましたが、こんなに人に馴れてる奴は初めてでございます。まず近くにあった壷に前足でペタペタ。次に落ち葉の山にペタペタ。そしてそして、その後になんと私の足にペタペタしてきました。ちなみに、写真手前の黒い物体は私の足でございます。私は本当に真下にカメラを向けて、いま足下にいる、子供の頃に出合うことを夢にまで見たラスカルの写真を撮っていました。一平は死んでもいいと思いました。 That was a raccoon. I had seen it a few times but not like this friendly one. First, he whack-whacked the big pot nearby with his front feet. Then, he whack-whacked the pile of fallen leaves. And lastly, he whack-whacked my left foot! He was super cute. By the way, the black object on the pics is my foot. I was looking right down and taking photos of this little guy. I was going to die.

その後、逃げ去るわけでもなく、庭のあっちこっちに寄り道しながら、歩きさって行きました。（注：アメリカではアライグマは狂犬病ウイルスを媒介する害獣として知られています。皆さん、近寄っちゃダメよ） After that, this guy did not really run off. He was making the detour in the yard and just walked away. (Note: Raccoons are known pests in America because it might carry rabies. Don't go near it)
